Foam control

FAQ 25.06.2023

How to reduce foam?

Foam is a dispersion of gas bubbles, stabilized by surfactants, in a continuous liquid phase. Foam is stabilized by the viscoelasticity of bubble lamella, silicone products act by modifying surface properties due to their low surface and interfacial tensions that enables them to spread easily over the film. This causes foam lamella thining, drainage rate increase, enable lamella rupture to collapse the foam. The best way to reduce foam is to use our silicone defoamer products.

Depending on the foaming media, it can be SILCOLAPSE™ compounds for use in non-aqueous media or to make aqueous emulsions and SILCOLAPSE™ emulsions for aqueous media.
