Industry-leading milestone for Elkem's ferrosilicon

Elkem’s Silicon Products division is leading the way in sustainability with its first Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for an FeSi75 product.

To our knowledge, this is the first publicly available EPD for an FeSi75 product, making Elkem the first company to provide fully verified environmental impact data for this type of ferroalloy. This milestone reflects Elkem’s deep commitment to sustainability and transparency and marks a significant step forward in our efforts to reduce environmental impact and continuously improve our operations.

Industry-leading transparency

The EPD, developed for Elkem Limpio’s FeSi75, offers comprehensive, third-party verified data based on a life cycle assessment (LCA). Based on Elkem's research, it is the first EPD in the industry for a ferrosilicon product, representing both a technical breakthrough and a bold move toward open, accountable production practices in an industry facing increasing pressure to decarbonise.

“We are proud to be the first in the industry to offer an EPD for a FeSi75 product,” says [Name, Title], [e.g. Sustainability Manager at Elkem].

“This is not only about compliance — it’s about leadership. We’re giving our customers the data they need to make smarter, greener choices.”

What is an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)?

Think of an EPD as a “nutrition label” for environmental impact. It is an internationally recognised, third-party verified document that shows how a product affects the environment throughout its life cycle.

For Elkem Limpio’s FeSi75, the EPD is based on a cradle-to-gate analysis, covering everything from raw material extraction and energy use to emissions and packaging, up until the product leaves the Limpio facility.

This EPD goes beyond basic carbon footprint data, which is already available for many of Elkem’s products, meeting strict international standards across multiple environmental impact categories.

Why this matters – now more than ever

  • Standing out in the market: EPDs help Elkem stand out by highlighting our environmental commitment, attracting environmentally conscious customers and investors.
  • Trusted data for customers: Verified data helps our customers meet their own sustainability targets and reporting obligations, by providing clear, credible insight into environmental performance.
  • Ready for regulation: With global sustainability regulations tightening, having verified product data helps keep Elkem ahead of compliance and ensures continued market access.
  • Supporting Elkem’s green strategy: This EPD supports ESP’s green branding strategy, reinforcing our commitment to measurable, science-based climate action.

A platform for the future

This is just the beginning. Elkem’s first FeSi75 EPD sets the stage for future declarations across the product portfolio—and for a more transparent, accountable ferroalloy industry.
